Who are we and what do we do?

Ponoka and Rimbey Adult Learning Society is a nonprofit society funded by Alberta Advanced Education to serve Alberta residents who are adults. We are part of the Community Adult Learning Program (CALP) network and have over 100 sister sites throughout the province. We have been operating in our community for almost 40 years and are governed by a wonderful volunteer Board of Directors made up of local people who are passionate about helping their community members improve their lives through education. Their support ensures continued success in bringing learning opportunities to our community.

Our main goal is to help adult community members to build new skills.

We do so by offering classes, or working one-on-one with a learning coach, in a non-threatening, inclusive and flexible learning environment, most often in literacy, numeracy, English landguage learning or computers. We also offer continuing education classes through Red Deer and Olds Colleges and a variety of workshops and information sessions throughout the year.

We have an awesome partnership with Campus Alberta Central which has brought very successful post-secondary certificate and diplma programs to our Ponoka Learning Centre!

CAC is a joint venture between Olds College and Red Deer College that provides post-secondary learning opportunities in communities throughout central Alberta.

Your Safety is our Priority
The Ponoka & Rimbey Adult Learning Centre with the input of Campus Alberta Central has developed a relaunch plan for the Ponoka and Rimbey Learning Centres.
Our organization will be opening in stages. We are currently in:
Stage 1:
  • Offices are closed to the public.
  • Staff work from home. People can book online or in-person appointments with staff. Individuals must submit an answer to the Covid-19 Response Form before the in-person meeting.
  • PRALS programs are online.
You can read the most current version of the PRALS Relaunch Plan here.

As part of our Relaunch, we require everyone to submit an answer to our 1 question form before entering the Ponoka or Rimbey Learning Centres.

Click the LINK to be directed to the form.

Thank you for taking the time to keep our space safe for all of our learners.

We have taken the necessary steps to ensure your safety in our centres. This has been done by:
  • Increased cleaning of high touch zones
  • Smaller class sizes with appropriately distanced tables and chairs
  • Desk shields for learners to feel more comfortable behind
  • Providing masks to anyone who comes to meet with staff
  • Posted signage on walls and floors to encourage physical distancing and handwashing practices
  • Touch-free hand sanitizing stations in our space
  • Blended and online delivery of Adult programming
  • Implementing a Rapid Response plan that staff are trained in for handling a potential symptomatic individual in the space
Read our most current  Relaunch Plan for a detailed outline of all of our procedures.
